Day 90 | Delphi Camping
6th September, Friday
We’ve finally arrived in Delphi. This has been listed in the “City to Visit” of Kay.
The ancient Greeks considered the center of the world to be in Delphi. It occupies a site on the south-western slope of Mount Parnassus, which includes the Sanctuary of Apollo – the site of the ancient Oracle. The site is now an extensive archaeological site with a small modern town of the same name nearby. It has been been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. More of the history here.
The ride from Meteora took us about 4 hours, with half the time in the highway. Luckily there were plenty of spaces to choose from the campground that we went to – the Delphi Camping. They got what you may be looking for in a campsite – clean facilities, free usage of pool, mini-market, restaurant, wifi-everywhere. In addition to that, next to the pool is the wonderful view of the valley towards the sea and on the other side is a towering rocky mountain. It’s a relaxing place to be.
